Vehicle Repairs

If the Repair category is available after initially selecting a vehicle, you will have the ability to research your current automobile's repair documentation (Figure 1).

Note: This information will be easily accessible even if you decide to research a separate category on this vehicle i.e. TSB's or Maintenance. Simply select the Repair tab in order to return to the Repair screen of your current vehicle (Figure 1).

The steps following Figure 1 will illustrate how to navigate in the Repair button of ChiltonLibrary. You may also select the Repair link from the right window pane after selecting your vehicle.

1. After selecting the Repair button or link, you will be sent to the repair manual of the specific car you have selected. The window will be split into two separate panes. The left window will display a complete car schematic in a document tree layout. The right pane will display any documentation selected from the left tree (Figure 2).

Note: If the Repair button is unable to be selected (grayed out text), the database does not have this information available for your vehicle.

Note: Repair Subcategories on the left navigation may differ based on the vehicle you are researching.

2. Tree Layout

The tree layout is highlighted and documented in Figure 3, below. For sample purposes, we are going to obtain information on how to remove and install a fuel pump for a 2000 Ford Escort:

1. Select the plus (+) symbol next to one of the categories of the car that you would like information on. Using Figure 3 as an example, the selection was Fuel System. Once the selection has been made, a new batch of sub-category selections under Fuel System will be displayed (Fuel Filter, Gasoline Fuel Injection Systems, Relieving Fuel System Pressure). These are displayed as children of the root category Fuel System which will be represented by the indentation.

2. Selecting the plus symbol next to the category Gasoline Fuel Injection Systems, which is a sub-category of Fuel System,  will display any categories that are associated with the Gasoline Fuel Injection Systems (Adjustments, Fuel Injectors, Fuel Pressure Relief Valve, Fuel Pump, etc).

3. Selecting the plus symbol next to the category Fuel Pump, will display any categories that are associated with the Fuel Pump (Removal & Installation).

4. Since there are no other plus symbols, Removal & Installation is the furthest subcategory and therefore selecting it will display information on how to remove and install a fuel pump in the right window pane.

5. This pane displays all the detailed information for removing and installing a 2000 Ford Escort Fuel Pump.

3. Bread Crumb Navigation

When you are within the repair content, in addition to the tree layout in the left pane, you will also notice another navigation schematic. At the top of the right window pane there is a bread crumb navigation system (Figure 4). Each category in blue is linked within the PATH. You can click on these links and they will take you to that category. If the category is black this content is on the screen or you cannot link to that section.

Figure 4

Once you click a link you will be brought to this section, for example within the Removal & Installation screen we clicked the Gasoline Fuel Injection System link in Figure 5, which then refreshes to the page in Figure 6. You will notice that the bread crumb path has shortened and you are now within the Gasoline Fuel Injection Systems page.

Note: In order to get back to Removal & Installation you will need to navigate through the tree layout in the left pane again.
